Prospective PhD students

The SPUD Lab admits PhD students through Carnegie Mellon’s Human-Computer Interaction Institute PhD program. We typically consider new students each admissions cycle; apply to the HCII PhD program and mention Sauvik Das as a potential advisor in your application.

Strong applicants usually have interests at the intersection of human-computer interaction, security and privacy, and/or applied AI. You do not need to cold-email to be considered — applications are read carefully — but thoughtful notes about research fit are welcome at spudlab@cmu.edu.

Current CMU students

If you are a CMU undergraduate or master’s student interested in research experience with the lab, email spudlab@cmu.edu with:

• a short note on which of our projects or publications interest you and why,
• your resume/CV, and
• the amount of time you can commit per week.
